What this free calculator does


The calculator places your board on a production panel using the same layout engine as the full KwickFit product. It accounts for the panel border your fabricator reserves, the spacing between boards, and rotated placements automatically, then reports boards per panel and panel utilization. When rotating the board fits more, a rotated layout is shown alongside the single-orientation layouts so you can compare them.

Boards per panel drives your production cost: a large share of a panel's fabrication cost is fixed, so every additional board on the panel generally lowers the cost of each board.

For example, a 10 x 10 panel with a 1.0 border on every side leaves an 8 x 8 usable area, and a 2 x 2 board with no spacing fits exactly 16 times at 64.0% panel utilization. The calculator computes the same answer for your dimensions and draws the layout.

If a small change to your board size would fit more boards per panel, and you have the latitude to change it, it may reduce your cost per board on a production run.


What this free calculator doesn't do


It doesn't design the array. Production boards are often manufactured in arrays, sub-panels of boards that repeat across the production panel, and the array design decides how many boards each panel yields. More boards per array does not always mean more boards per panel: an array with fewer boards can fill the panel with less waste and yield more.
